Leonard had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against the Atlantic Eagles on Tuesday as the Leonard Lancers made off with a 24-3 win. The Lancers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles, too.
Yanina Varela made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance gave her a new career-low in earned runs. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Leonard got a massive performance out of Chanel Webb, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Arianna Sheerer was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Looking ahead, Leonard will head out to square off against Berean Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Atlantic, they will welcome Atlantic Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Atlantic is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak dating back to last season.
