The Breckenridge Buckaroos will head out on the road to  face off against  the Sweetwater Mustangs  at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. Breckenridge will be strutting in after a  win while Sweetwater will be coming in after a  loss.
Breckenridge played in-conference for the first time  on Saturday and got just the result they were looking for. They managed  a  26-22 victory over Comanche.

 Jaime Cruz was  his usual excellent self, rushing for 156 yards and two  scores. Breckenridge is undefeated when  Cruz posts 100 or  more  rushing yards, but 0-5 otherwise.
 Breckenridge's run defense was locked in: Comanche could only muster 2.6 yards per carry. The team can thank  Hayden Mendoza for the heroic effort on defense: he. Breckenridge's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.2.
 Breckenridge didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut  Ryan Waller.
Meanwhile, Sweetwater came up short against Clyde on Friday and fell  27-20.
 Breckenridge will have to keep a close watch on  Jose Quintero and  Caiden Ortiz, a pair of players who had a big impact on Sweetwater's prior game. Quintero picked up 210 receiving yards and a pair of  touchdowns, while  Ortiz threw for 308 yards and two  TDs. Quintero has been hot recently, having also posted two or more  receiving touchdowns the last three times he's  played.
 Sweetwater's  defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-5. As for Breckenridge, their record is now an identical 3-5.
Friday's   matchup might be decided on the ground. Breckenridge has been excellent on the ground this season,  having  averaged 149.5  rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sweetwater struggles in that department as   they've been averaging 164.2  rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's   game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
 Breckenridge took a serious blow against Sweetwater  when the teams last played  back in November of 2024, falling  43-13. Can the Buckaroos avenge their  loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
