Basketball Recap: West Port Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Aaliyah Grant and Calise Smith

West Port lost against Leesburg back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The West Port Wolf Pack took a 37-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Leesburg Yellow Jackets. The matchup marked the Wolf Pack's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

West Port's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Calise Smith, who posted 11 points and three blocks, and Aaliyah Grant, who went 5 of 6 on her way to 12 points and five rebounds. Smith is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played.

Leesburg found their leader in freshman Alysya Smith, who had 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniya Hester, who put up seven points.

West Port's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Leesburg, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-5.

West Port will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Gainesville at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. West Port is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.5 points per game this season. Leesburg also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Winter Haven at 6:00 p.m. on January 10th.
