Basketball Recap: Sand Creek Piles Up the Points Against Mitchell

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sand Creek). They claimed a resounding 81-32 win over the Mitchell Marauders. Given the Scorpions' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Marauders are ranked 330th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sand Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Terrence Clay led the charge by putting up nine points in addition to seven steals and six boards. That's the most points Clay has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tristan Daigle, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Sand Creek was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Mitchell lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Elijah Trujillo, who had seven points. The team also got some help courtesy of Steven Alcantar, who scored five points.

The victory made it two in a row for Sand Creek and bumps their season record up to 7-2. As for Mitchell, they are on a 29-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Sand Creek has already played their next game, a 58-41 win against Widefield on the 11th. As for Mitchell, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 52-32 defeat against Montbello on the 11th.
