Softball Game Preview: Mulberry Grove Aces vs. Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats

Mulberry Grove is 8-2 against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Aces will head out to challenge the Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. Mulberry Grove will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Mulberry Grove's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over Martinsville. Considering the Aces have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Lily Johnson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Mulberry Grove got a massive performance out of Taylor Stone, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Lyla Mollett, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Martinsville by a score of 4-1.

Mulberry Grove pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, their record now sits at 3-10.

Everything went Mulberry Grove's way against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in their previous matchup on Saturday, as Mulberry Grove made off with a 13-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Aces since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
