Baseball Recap: Doherty Takes a Loss

After flying high against Liberty last Tuesday, Doherty came back down to earth. The Spartans fell just short of the Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans by a score of 7-6 on Thursday. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Jackson Hendrickson put in work no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Cooper Settle was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Giovanni Rishavy, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Doherty's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-8. As for Fountain-Fort Carson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

While Doherty had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
