Basketball Game Preview: West Iredell Warriors vs. Statesville Greyhounds

West Iredell hasn't had much luck against Statesville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The West Iredell Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Statesville Greyhounds at 7:00 p.m. West Iredell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 73.4 points per game this season.

West Iredell is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since February 19, 2024 on Tuesday. They took a blow against East Lincoln, falling 93-50. The match marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

West Iredell might have lost, but man, Jordan Patterson was a machine: he almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. Patterson's evening made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Vaughn Curtin, who went 5 of 6 en route to 11 points.

Even though they lost, West Iredell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Statesville was able to grind out a solid win over Foard on Tuesday, taking the game 67-57. Given the Greyhounds' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while the Tigers are ranked 598th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

West Iredell's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-4. As for Statesville, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

West Iredell might still be hurting after the 83-60 loss they got from Statesville in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point West Iredell was down 45-22.
