Baseball Recap: North Buncombe's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

North Buncombe took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against A.C. Reynolds, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Black Hawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Rockets on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Black Hawks as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Kameron Keenan made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because North Buncombe is 8-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-5 otherwise. Keenan was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. That stolen base was his first of the season.

Keenan wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Davis Franklin, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Those two hits gave Franklin a new career-high. Dylan Silvers also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

North Buncombe's victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for A.C. Reynolds, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-7 record.

North Buncombe and A.C. Reynolds could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Black Hawks (ranked 220th) will meet T.C. Roberson (ranked sixth) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, A.C. Reynolds will face off against Greeneville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (97 vs. 35).
