Softball Recap: Port Allegany Starts Season with Win Against Smethport

Port Allegany gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They put the hurt on the Smethport Hubbers with a sharp 13-1 victory. For the Gators, this counts as revenge for the 17-15 win the Hubbers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Alayna McKervey was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Sienna Lathrop was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Port Allegany will challenge Johnsonburg at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Smethport, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Galeton at 4:30 p.m. on April 2.
