Basketball Recap: Soldotna Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Colony, Soldotna was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Nikiski Bulldogs by a score of 50-42. The win continues a trend for the Stars in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won seven in a row.

It was another big night for Hope Hillyer, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. That's the most boards she has posted since back in January of 2024. Juliet Innes was another key player, putting up seven points.

Soldotna was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nikiski only posted four assists.

When it comes to explaining why Nikiski lost, don't look at Blakeley Jorgensen. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 54.8% of Nikiski's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby White, who had five points and three steals.

Soldotna now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Nikiski, they dropped their record down to 3-10 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Soldotna will face off against Wasilla at 6:00 p.m. on February 14th. As for Nikiski, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 46-30 victory against Kenai Central on the 7th.
