Softball Recap: Bishop Kelly Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Middleton

Bishop Kelly faced Middleton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Knights fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 4-3. The contest marked the Knights' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Lauren Fettic spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Olivia Watt made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Bishop Kelly's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-2. As for Middleton, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home.
