Bishop Hartley is 1-9 against Bishop Watterson since April of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Hawks will be playing at home against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Bishop Hartley comes in on three and Bishop Watterson on nine.
On Saturday, Bishop Hartley beat Fairfield Christian Academy 6-3.
Derek Hernandez and Jake Vonderwell were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hernandez pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Vonderwell tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Hernandez went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Vonderwell went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nick Galich, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Oden Mertz, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bishop Watterson never let their opponents score on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Calvert 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since June 2, 2025.
Not much got past Luke Fivecoat, who gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Calvert off the board. Fivecoat has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Michael Mulligan was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.
Bishop Watterson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.
Bishop Hartley's win bumped their record up to 12-2-1. As for Bishop Watterson, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Bishop Hartley has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Bishop Watterson struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
