Softball Recap: Belleville West Takes a Loss

If Belleville West was riding high fresh off their 20-6 takedown of Highland on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Maroons fell just short of the Marion Wildcats by a score of 3-2 on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Maroons of the 11-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Belleville West saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daijah Jackson, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Belleville West's defeat dropped their record down to 15-15. As for Marion, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season.

Belleville West and Marion are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Maroons will face off against Granite City at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something Belleville West will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Marion, they will welcome Herrin at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
