Basketball Recap: Central Davidson Comes Up Short

Central Davidson lost against Oak Grove back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Central Davidson Spartans lost to the Oak Grove Grizzlies on the road by a 52-38 margin. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while the Grizzlies are ranked 107th).

Despite the loss, Central Davidson saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Bethany Myers dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 boards set a new season-high mark for Myers. Lauren Chesney was another key player, putting up three points and five rebounds.

Emma Hadley was nothing short of spectacular for Oak Grove: she almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. Hadley has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Cora Hadley, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Central Davidson's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Oak Grove, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central Davidson will host Ledford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Central Davidson has won five straight at home, while Ledford won seven straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Oak Grove has already played their next game (against Asheboro), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
