Basketball Recap: Athens Comes Up Short

Athens was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 52-47 heartbreaker at the hands of the Vinton County Vikings. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 64-56 back in December of 2024.

Athens now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Vinton County, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens and Marietta will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. As for Vinton County, they will head out to square off against Nelsonville-York at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
