Volleyball Recap: Dillon Hommel's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cactus over Gilbert

It was a good run, but Cactus unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Gilbert Tigers by a score of 2-1.

Several Cobras players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dillon Hommel, who had 21 assists and four digs. Hommel has been hot recently, having posted 14 or more assists the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Vinnie Vitale, who had nine digs and two aces.

Brandon Bui was nothing short of spectacular for Gilbert: he had nine digs and two aces. What's more, Bui racked up 27 assists, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

Cactus' defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Gilbert, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Cactus wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 win against Valley Christian on the 29th. As for Gilbert, they have also already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against McClintock on the 29th.
