Basketball Recap: Semajay Wright's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cummings over Northwood

Cummings lost against Northwood back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Cummings Cavaliers lost to the Northwood Chargers on the road by a 52-35 margin. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 474th, while the Chargers are ranked 48th).

Cummings' loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Semajay Wright, who posted six points. The dominant performance also gave Wright a new career-high in boards (three). Isaiah Long was another key player, putting up 11 points and five rebounds.

Chad Graves was his usual excellent self, going 5 for 8 en route to 14 points in addition to seven boards and four steals for Northwood. Graves has been hot recently, having also posted four or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Blair, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Cummings has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 12 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Northwood, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-2.

Looking ahead, Cummings will challenge North Moore at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Moore is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.1 points per game this season. As for Northwood, they will face off against Chatham Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Chatham Central has won eight straight at home, while Northwood won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
