Basketball Recap: Pilot Grove Comes Up Short

Pilot Grove lost against Santa Fe back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Pilot Grove Tigers were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 45-44 to the Santa Fe Chiefs. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 447th, while the Chiefs are ranked 193rd).

Emma Michael continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Santa Fe, almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine boards. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Michael has scored at least a third of Santa Fe's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Laney Ballenger, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Pilot Grove dropped their record down to 3-14 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Santa Fe, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.

Pilot Grove didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 55-31 defeat against New Franklin on the 21st. Santa Fe has also already played their next game, a 57-26 loss against Archie on the 22nd.
