It was a good run, but High Plains unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Thursday. They were beaten by the Cross County Cougars 57-27. While losing is never fun, the Storm can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Cougars are ranked 46th).

Despite the loss, High Plains still got an impressive performance from Emma Brown, who posted eight points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Courtney Carlstrom, who earned five points and five boards.

Ema Dickey was a one-woman wrecking crew for Cross County as she went 8 of 12 on her way to 20 points. Those 20 points gave Dickey a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lindee Kelley, who had nine points.

High Plains' loss dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Cross County, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-2.

High Plains has already played their next match, a 38-37 defeat against Dorchester on the 31st. As for Cross County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 61-34 victory against Bruning-Davenport/Shickley on the 31st.
