Baseball Game Preview: Bronxville Broncos vs. Putnam Valley Tigers

The Bronxville Broncos will venture away from home to square off against the Putnam Valley Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Bronxville has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Bronxville lost 14-4 to Albertus Magnus on Saturday. The loss continues a trend for the Broncos in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost four in a row.

Meanwhile, Putnam Valley had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Lions a 9-0 shutout. Considering the Tigers have won six matches by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Sean Carroll made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other pitching news, Eli Pierce looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Louis Peduto, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. That run was his first of the season. Jake Peterson was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Bronxville's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Putnam Valley, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

Bronxville couldn't quite get it done against Putnam Valley when the teams last played back in May of 2015 as they fell 5-0. Can the Broncos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
