Baseball Recap: Valley Rams vs. Elmore County Panthers

Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 9-6 to the Elmore County Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-3 last Tuesday.

Matthew McDonald put in work no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

McDonald wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mason Yarbrough, who went 3-for-4 with one double. Braylon Carter was another, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Even though they lost, Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February.

Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Elmore County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Valley will venture away from home to take on Handley at 12:00 p.m. on March 28th. As for Elmore County, they will head out on the road to face off against Bibb County at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
