Softball Recap: Dale County Extends Winning Streak to Five

Dale County had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They never let the Headland Rams get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Warriors also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Shayleigh Whitman made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leah Grace Snellgrove, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. Allie Buckelew was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.

Dale County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in three consecutive contests.

Dale County pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Headland, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-2 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dale County will take on Daleville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Daleville has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.5 runs per game on average), something Dale County will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Headland, they will challenge Highland Home at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
