Basketball Recap: Nyla Woyee Key Part of Team Effort in Tigers Win

Marana posted their closest win since December 10, 2024 on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Vista Grande Spartans 35-32. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marana to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nyla Woyee, who posted eight points and five boards. Woyee has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Sadie McRae was another key player, putting up eight points and 12 rebounds.

Marana smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Vista Grande's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gabby Sepulveda, who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Talieyah Lopez, who had four points and seven boards.

Marana's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Vista Grande, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Marana didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-22 loss against Yuma Catholic on the 12th. As for Vista Grande, they have also already played their next contest, a 46-35 win against Safford on the 12th.
