Softball Recap: Durant's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Durant had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 9-8 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They never let the Newsome Wolves get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Wolves back in March, they had to take a 4-1 defeat.

The result came thanks to Betty Oderio's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Durant's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gabrielle Langston, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Langston has hit this season.

As for Newsome, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-5. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

On Newsome's side, Allyson Conner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

Coming up, Durant will head out to square off against Alonso at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Newsome, they will welcome East Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
