Softball Recap: Hernando's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

Hernando dropped their record down to 13-7-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 4-1 to the Sunlake Seahawks. The Leopards were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Seahawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Aubrey Knierim made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.

As for Sunlake, they pushed their record up to 16-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games.

On Sunlake's side, Madison Siders spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Sunlake's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Analese Lacquey, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hernando will take on South Sumter at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sunlake, they will face off against Clearwater at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Seahawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tornadoes have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
