Holmdel hadn't done well against Middletown South recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Hornets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Eagles. That's two games straight that the Hornets have won by just one run.

Holmdel pushed their record up to 14-3-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Middletown South, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-6.

Looking ahead, Holmdel will venture away from home to take on Monmouth Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Middletown South does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
