Softball Game Preview: Fairfield Falcons vs. Columbia City Eagles

The Fairfield Falcons will square off against the Columbia City Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairfield is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.

Fairfield's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on West Noble with a sharp 10-0 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by eight runs or more this season.

Faith Berkey was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Lilly Yoder was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kinslyn Pressler, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Columbia City walked away with it. They skirted past the Warriors 5-4. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Mylie Ward, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Fairfield's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Columbia City, their win bumped their record up to 16-5.
