Basketball Recap: Maret Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Bullis

Maret is ranked highly in their home state and on Thursday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Bullis. The Maret Frogs came up short against the Bullis Bulldogs, falling 76-51. The Frogs' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Maret still got an impressive performance from Kennedy Austin, who went 5 of 8 en route to 15 points along with eight boards and six steals. The contest was Austin's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was London Liley, who posted 16 points.

Even though they lost, Maret smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bullis to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ivanna Manyacka, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds. Manyacka has been hot, having posted nine or more boards the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Meghan Yarnevich, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds.

Maret's defeat dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Bullis, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maret has already played their next matchup (against Georgetown Visitation Prep), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Bullis has also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against St. Andrew's Episcopal.
