Basketball Game Preview: Clay Blue Devils vs. Middleburg Broncos

The Clay Blue Devils will challenge the Middleburg Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clay is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.

Clay is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Fleming Island on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Clay might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 46-11 to Fleming Island, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 537th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 186th).

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 66-32, which was the final score in Middleburg's tilt against Episcopal School of Jacksonville on Thursday. The Broncos were down 58-24 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Middleburg has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Clay, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.

Clay ended up a good deal behind Middleburg in their previous meeting back in January, losing 46-27. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Middleburg's Aiyana Haynes, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine steals.
