Baseball Recap: Calaveras Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Calaveras can bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Saturday. They blew past the Seaside Spartans 28-2. The Red Hawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Jett Kesterson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Kesterson was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, eight RBI, and three runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

In other batting news, Mason Wehling was a standout: he scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. He also put up a stolen base, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Cohen Curran, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Calaveras kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Calaveras' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Seaside, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Calaveras has already played their next game, a 12-0 win against Marina on the 1st. As for Seaside, they will venture away from home to take on Everett Alvarez at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
