Middle Park had lost five straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped down to 0-10 to make it six. They came up short against the Platte Canyon Huskies, falling 23-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Panthers have suffered against the Huskies since May 5, 2017.
Wyatt Paulson was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Diogui Laynes, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Platte Canyon, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Platte Canyon's side, Jerod Horta made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Horta was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braylon Spodyak, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Platte Canyon is 4-1 when Spodyak posts two or more runs, but 2-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Severson, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Middle Park will host Arvada at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.2 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Platte Canyon, they will welcome Englewood at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
