Softball Recap: Make It Nine in a Row for Independence

Independence faced Riverside in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. Independence narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Riverside 3-1. Those three runs were actually the fewest Independence has put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Independence got a great performance from Kayden Pak as she didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. Pak has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Independence's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ava Riolo, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

The win was the ninth in a row for Independence, bringing their record up to 12-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.7 runs. As for Riverside, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Riverside beat Independence by a score of 9-5 later that day.
