Football Game Preview: Lexington Eagles vs. George West Longhorns

The Lexington Eagles will square off against the George West Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lexington comes in on three and George West on 11.

Lexington is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 42-41 photo finish over Brazos. 42 seems to be a good number for the Eagles as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.

Kase Evans had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 143 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.2 yards per carry, and also throwing for 159 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 143 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Weston Bayer was Evans' top target, picking up 97 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Meanwhile, George West blew past Karnes City, posting a 56-14 victory. Considering the Longhorns have won eight matchups by more than 23 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

George West's win came from a few key players Lexington will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kohen Blount, who rushed for 118 yards and two TDs. Blount is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 109 every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Heard, who rushed for 69 yards and one touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: George West was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 474 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 287 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Lexington's win bumped their record up to 9-1-1. As for George West, their victory bumped their record up to 11-0.

Everything came up roses for Lexington against George West in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 76-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
