Baseball Recap: Superior Triumphs

After losing to Hermantown the last time they met, Superior decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Spartans came out on top against the Hawks by a score of 11-7 on Monday.

Carter Gilbertson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jayce Rue, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Thor Netland was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Superior was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory got Superior back to even at 8-8. As for Hermantown, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Coming up, Superior will welcome Rice Lake at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Spartans are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Hermantown, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Chisago Lakes Area at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
