Basketball Recap: Central of Coosa County Comes Up Short

Central of Coosa County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 59-25 defeat at the hands of the Benjamin Russell Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 315th, while the Wildcats are ranked 69th).

Central of Coosa County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Queen Ballard, who posted eight points in addition to nine rebounds and three blocks. Ballard is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 19 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Traci Cox, who scored eight points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Central of Coosa County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in ten consecutive matches.

Central of Coosa County's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Benjamin Russell, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-6.

Central of Coosa County will challenge Horseshoe Bend at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Benjamin Russell, they will square off against Calera at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
