Baseball Recap: Piner Takes a Loss

Piner had lost three straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 5-9 to make it four. They fell 4-1 to the Rancho Cotate Cougars. The Prospectors were not able to make up for their loss to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Sokhayne Prak put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Piner is 2-1 when Prak allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-8 otherwise. Prak was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Rancho Cotate, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games.

On Rancho Cotate's side, they got a great performance from Aiden O'Sullivan as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave O'Sullivan a new career-high.

At the plate, Jeremiah Olvera was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jett Derammelaere, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Piner has already played their next match, a 9-3 defeat against Montgomery on the 16th. As for Rancho Cotate, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Maria Carrillo on the 16th.
