Football Recap: Holmes Takes a Loss

Holmes played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Taft Raiders and fell 45-7. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 878th, while the Raiders are ranked 324th).

Despite the loss, Holmes still got an impressive performance from Jayden Hopkins, who rushed for 134 yards and one score. Hopkins showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 60 yards.

Tucker Vogel had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 121 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and also throwing for 109 yards and two TDs for Taft. David Aguirre did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 89 receiving yards.

This is the second loss in a row for Holmes and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Taft, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Holmes will face off against rival Warren at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Taft is set to take on their familiar foe Stevens at 7:00 p.m. on the 27th.
