Volleyball Recap: Socorro Falls Despite Big Games from Alyssa Del Hierro and Alyssa Almanza

Socorro had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 4-4 to make it ten. They came up short against the Canutillo Eagles, falling 3-0. The Bulldogs were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in August of 2024.

Socorro's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alyssa Almanza, who had 19 digs and one assist, and Alyssa Del Hierro, who had eight blocks, five kills, and three digs. Almanza is crushing it when it comes to digs: she's had at least 17 every time she's taken the court this season.

As for Canutillo, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-6. That looming 3-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

Canutillo was led to victory by Sophia Ontiveros and Hailey Pedregon. Ontiveros had five digs and five aces, while Pedregon had 15 digs and one assist. Those 15 digs gave Pedregon a new career-high.

Socorro didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-1 victory against Parkland on the 21st. As for Canutillo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 loss against Montwood on the 21st.
