Dawson County gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 16-8 win over the Custer County Cowboys. This was payback for the Red Devils, who suffered a 26-6 loss the last time these two teams met.

Dawson County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Caleb Phalen led the charge by rushing for 54 yards and a pair of scores. The dominant performance also gave Phalen a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two).

Dawson County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ethan Rivas and Phalen.

Cody Lang and Jake Phalen certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Lang picked up 83 receiving yards and one TD, while Jake rushed for 71 yards.

The victory made it two in a row for Dawson County and bumps their season record up to 3-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.0 points over those games. As for Custer County, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-5.
