Basketball Recap: Parker Volk's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Doniphan-Trumbull over Lincoln Lutheran

On Saturday, the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 42-38 to the Lincoln Lutheran Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Warriors are ranked third).

Doniphan-Trumbull lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Parker Volk, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 12 boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 8 rebounds per game. Another player making a difference was Jack Poppe, who posted 12 points.

Even though they lost, Doniphan-Trumbull was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln Lutheran only four assists.

Lincoln Lutheran's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Grant Stowell, who had 12 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Duitsman, who scored 15 points.

Doniphan-Trumbull's loss dropped their record down to 14-6. As for Lincoln Lutheran, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-3.

Doniphan-Trumbull wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 58-35 victory against Arcadia/Loup City on the 21st. As for Lincoln Lutheran, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-48 win against Boys Town on the 21st.
