WPIAL AAA Big Nine recap October 22, 2013

Ringgold moved up to 112 from 156 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in WPIAL AAA Big Nine. The Rams were able to move up by topping Highlands 45-20.

West Mifflin extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Trinity, 43-28. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.

James Wheeler was a force in the backfield as West Mifflin defeated the Hillers.

Wheeler was a passing and rushing force as Ray Braszo's team bested Trinity. Wheeler's key target this week was Kevin Garbark, who caught 2 passes for 76 yards.

Wheeler was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 24 carries, he ran for 220 yards as the Titans defeated Uniontown. Jon Green also contributed to the rushing game with 69 yards on the ground.

6-foot-1 quarterback Nico Law of Ringgold is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,173. He has also thrown 13 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dietrich. The Thomas Jefferson star has 33 catches for 674 yards.

The top two teams in WPIAL AAA Big Nine will face off this week when first place West Mifflin takes on second place Thomas Jefferson. Last week, West Mifflin beat Ryan Coyle's team, while the Jaguars topped the Red Raiders.

Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Thomas Jefferson's Dietrich goes up against the Titans' DiAngelo Mitchell.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when West Mifflin takes on Bill Cherpak's team. The Titans have allowed 104 points this season, while the Jaguars have given up 56. West Mifflin allowed 28 points last week as it beat the Hillers.

Uniontown fell to Thomas Jefferson 49-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Rodney Harris was a bright spot for John Fortugna's team, as he in the defeat.
