Basketball Recap: Kevin Yeghoian Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Maryvale Prep

The matchup between Antelope and Maryvale Prep on Friday hardly resembled the 1-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Antelope Rams skirted past the Maryvale Prep Matador 54-51. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Rams also won the last time the pair played back in January.

Antelope's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kevin Yeghoian, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 18 rebounds. Yeghoian is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down 11 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Trane Figueroa, who posted 15 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Antelope's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-4. As for Maryvale Prep, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Antelope will take on Sequoia Pathway Academy in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: Sequoia Pathway Academy has lost three straight at home , while Antelope has lost four on the road (dating back to last season). As for Maryvale Prep, they will venture away from home to square off against Bagdad at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bagdad will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Maryvale Prep surely won't give up without a fight.
