Baseball Recap: Horizon Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Horizon extended their winning streak to four on Thursday, bumping them up to 10-8. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Monarch Coyotes 6-4. That's more bragging rights for the Hawks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Chayce Hansen was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Cooper Brennan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

As for Monarch, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-13. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only 1.5 runs.

On Monarch's side, they got a good showing from Andrew Willcutt, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Willcutt has allowed since back in March.

On the hitting side, Logan Uhlenhake and Blake Thompson did some serious damage despite the final result: Uhlenhake went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double, while Thompson went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Blake Lehrer, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Horizon will welcome Westminster at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.6 runs per game on average), something the Hawks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Monarch, they will be playing at home against Denver North at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
