Preview: Bridgeton Bulldogs vs. Wildwood Warriors
Having just played yesterday, the Bridgeton Bulldogs will jump right back in to play the Wildwood Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Bridgeton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Bridgeton had just enough and edged Barnegat out 51-48.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bridgeton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zikwon Anderson, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Anderson has scored at least 25% of Bridgeton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jameel Purnell, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wildwood was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 57-52 to Lower Cape May.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Junior Hans, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The game was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. Brian Cunniff was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Bridgeton's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Wildwood, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Bridgeton have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Wildwood, though, as they've been averaging only 28 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Bridgeton might still be hurting after the 74-49 loss they got from Wildwood when the teams last played back in February of 2020. Can Bridgeton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
