Baseball Game Preview: Manistee Mariners vs. Fremont Packers

The Manistee Mariners will head out on the road to square off against the Fremont Packers at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Last Friday, Manistee didn't have quite enough to beat Shelby and fell 6-5.

Owen Polcyn was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Robinson, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Fremont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 8-1 to Newaygo.

Manistee's loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Fremont, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-15.

Manistee was able to grind out a solid win over Fremont in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 8-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mariners since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
