Softball Game Preview: Herron Achaeans vs. Cathedral Fighting Irish

Herron is 0-3 against Cathedral since May of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. The Achaeans will take on the Fighting Irish at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Herron is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Indianapolis Shortridge 22-10. Winning may never get old, but the Achaeans sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Elena Newsom was a standout: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taylor Cotham, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Herron kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Indianapolis Shortridge only managed three hits.

Meanwhile, Cathedral got the win against Indianapolis Bishop Chatard on Wednesday by a conclusive 10-1. The Fighting Irish haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Herron now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Cathedral, their victory bumped their record up to 24-2.

Herron might still be hurting after the 16-4 defeat they got from Cathedral in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Achaeans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
