Baseball Game Preview: Bonita Springs Bullsharks vs. Lely Trojans

The Bonita Springs Bullsharks will square off against the Lely Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Bonita Springs' favor as the squad sits on eight straight wins at home while Lely has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Bonita Springs had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Southwest on Saturday. The Bullsharks were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Eagles. With that victory, the Bullsharks brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Carter Kalina spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alan Palamino, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gianni Phillips, who scored four runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Bonita Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Lely didn't have quite enough to beat Gateway Charter on Friday and fell 9-8.

Bonita Springs is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lely, their loss dropped their record down to 3-17.

Everything went Bonita Springs' way against Lely in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Bonita Springs made off with a 12-1 victory. Will the Bullsharks repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
