Recap: Founders Classical Academy Hoplites vs. Sunnybrook Christian Lions
The Founders Classical Academy Hoplites pushed their score all the way to 65 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were dealt a 93-65 defeat at the hands of Sunnybrook Christian. While losing is never fun, Founders Classical Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 948th, while Sunnybrook Christian is ranked 378th).
Founders Classical Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Aslan Whyle and Ledger Perrette. Whyle scored 27 points, while Perrette scored 21 points. Whyle is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonas Merxbauer, who scored seven points along with two blocks.
Christian Huber continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Sunnybrook Christian, dropping a triple-double on 33 points, ten rebounds, and 13 assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Huber has scored at least a third of Sunnybrook Christian's points. Another player making a difference was Gabe Minica, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 16 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Founders Classical Academy and nudges their season record down to 6-6. As for Sunnybrook Christian, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 24-2.
Founders Classical Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Lifegate Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sunnybrook Christian, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Coastal Christian HomeSchool at 4:00 p.m. on February 9th. Sunnybrook Christian is coming into the game with 12 straight victories on the road, so Coastal Christian HomeSchool is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
