Baseball Game Preview: Loyd Star Hornets vs. Franklin County Bulldogs

Loyd Star has gone 9-1 against Franklin County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Hornets are taking a road trip to challenge the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Loyd Star is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Loyd Star turned things around against West Lincoln on Friday. They came out on top against the Bears by a score of 10-5.

Carson Cunningham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Loyd Star is 6-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 7-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Kayne Case and Eli Thornton did most of the damage at the plate: Case scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Thornton scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Loyd Star is 9-2 when Case posts two or more runs, but 4-9 otherwise. Mason Smith was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Franklin County's offense. They came up short against Wesson on Friday, falling 12-0. The Bulldogs' loss continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.

Franklin County's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Loyd Star, their victory bumped their record up to 13-11.

Loyd Star took their win against Franklin County in their previous meeting back in February by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
