Baseball Recap: Ridgewood Comes Up Short

After flying high against Fenton on Monday, Ridgewood came back down to earth. The Rebels fell just short of the Bison by a score of 7-6 on Tuesday. The Rebels were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bison earlier this season, when they won 14-7.

Angelo Vitale was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kyle Szewczyk made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Ridgewood: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-12 otherwise. Frankie Barcas was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Ridgewood has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-14 record this season. As for Fenton, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-18.

Ridgewood and Fenton could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Rebels (ranked 253rd) will meet Bartlett (ranked 112th) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Fenton will square off against West Aurora at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (469 vs. 134).
